but obviously, 4k is harder to drive fps wise than 1080p. Its not much of an advantage, but its enough that can swing a battle if you are fast enough reaction time wise. the higher resolutions can help in competitive games like warzone where a 4k gamer will see the top of an enemies head BEFORE someone on a 1080p or 1440p display will see them, thanks to more pixels. Then you need to figure out what resolution you want. and they are uber expensive (one of LG's newest is like that, 4ms grey to grey, 6ms total pixel, with basically 0 overshoot.) IPS displays, only about one hand worth (less than 5 models) that have pixel response akin to TN monitors. RPG/MMO/RTS gamers don't need fast pixel response, so they usually go for IPS or VA monitors to get better color accuracy, better viewing angles, at the cost of slightly slower pixel response. competitive gamers usually want the fastest display types, which means TN panel so you end up with the fastest possible pixel response, lowest input lag, not caring about color accuracy or viewing angles.
